Wow, he is the third Rangers player/prospect to die in the last decade or so. There was the Russian kid Cherepanov who had the heart problem and died after collapsing on the ice, and then they had another prospect that died eight years ago.

Sux, but that much head trauma = CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) which means he could have been abusing drugs to cope. Wouldn't be surprising, just like the UPenn football player who killed himself.

The good news is that Mark Messier and his sister have a foundation/company where they're creating a new helmet that absorbs much more energy to take the brunt of the headshot off the brain.
