So I was talking to a friend last night, and the subject turned to women - in particular the lack of in my life 😛
I told her there "just aren't any out there" to which she vehemently disagreed.
So being a dork, and having to much time on my hands, I did what any self-respecting geek would do - hit up google and did a statistical analysis 😀
Population of El Paso County CO (a good approximation of the local area in play): 550,478
% Female: 49.8% - 274,138
# over 18: 386,072
# Female & over 18: 192,264
# Female & between age of 30 & 40 (I'm 36 - seems reasonable): 41,870
% Married by this age group: 63.3% leaving 15,366
% Cohabitating by age range ~ 10% leaving 13,829
% Non-smokers by age & education level ~ 88.4% leaving 12,225
% Hetero (Almost complete WAG here) 95% leaving 11,614
% Morbidly Obese (HUGE not just overweight) 4.7% leaving 11,068
% College educated 31.8% leaving 3519
There's bound to be some significant correlations here that are unaccounted for, but it was just a late night WAG.
So, just on the numbers, nevermind actual personal compatibility, I figure there are all of 3,519 eligblle woman in the local area - about 1% of the adult population. If I drop the education bit, which I'm not terribly hard up on, it jumps to a whopping 11,068 - nearly 3%! At the rate I meet people, those are not good odds 🙁
Of this, some large % will undoubtably be "off the market" in one way or another - in a relationship, don't want a relationship, etc. I have no idea what % this would be.
