hi

i'm runing win XP home edition update with all the updates and drivers of course, and i would like to be able to run the regular MS Firewall that came with OS in addition to my usual.

however, when i go to advanced tabs and click the box to enable it, i get teh following message:

An Error has occured while Internet Connection Sharing was being Enabled.
The dependancy group or service failed to start.

exactly as it is above. since then i have taken / tried the following steps to see if i could fix that:
1. uninstalled and reinstalled latest network drivers
2. uninstalled reinstalled all networking components that win XP came with
3. switched to all default settings, redid all the win upgrades from auto update.
4. chkdsk, defrag
5. reinstalled all networking parts of teh OS again enabling all teh redundant parts such as messenger etc.
6. completely uninstalled and removed my regular firewall to see if teh 2 conflict.
7. spent a half a day at the MS site support database searching fruitlessly for answers and attempted to contact MS support in vein.

nothing works and i would relaly liek that firewall up. it worked before, i dont understand why it doesnt work now. in internim i also did a complete reformat and clean install of my OS as i needed to dump all the garbage on my HD anyways and i am still geting the same thing.

how do i fix this ? i completely dont understand what dependancy groups or services are and how do i enable them and/or install them, i cannot find any usefull info about this on teh MS knowledgebase site.

can someone please help with some detailed instructions ?

thanks.

ICF is probably disabled at the service level.

You have to log to services and enabled it,

You should know that if you have a Router, and or you are using other software Firewall, ICF will not add security.

If it all is will add some minor trouble here and there.
