Eveer since a about a week ago M$ musta sent out an update patch to add DEP option to Control Panel/Perfoirmance MaintenanceSystem/Advance/Performace settings/DEP tab (should be last one).

However since then ( I had the first option checked) I was having some probs using WinRAR and windows explorer- kept crashing. When I went to the 2nd option and entered them as an "exception" it was ok. Then this morning Alcohol 120% wouldn't load, kept crashing when I tried to load it and NeroSmart Start would load, but when I tried to choose Audo for a burn it would flash/crash and bring back the NerSmart Start again. Entering Alcohol 120% into the exception list enabled that to load fine, but not Nero. Kept bringing up the send error to M$. Click send or dont' send would produce same results obviously.

My question is - is there a way to totally disable that DEP garbage? Can I just UNinstall the fix/patch for it?

I also noticed after that update was done any games, files or dirs I would try to run/open would take a few extra seconds to load as well.

Since I've run all kinds of scans the only resolution I came up with was that DEP :|

DEP is working fine. All the apps are garbage. But what you are experiencing is why MS turned it off by default in SP2. It wasn't until one of the Beta releases that everyone discovered how many apps were poorly written so that they were access areas that they should not. MS released it to the beta community on on a interim build and there were too many problems with too many apps. So MS just cleaned up the OS and what CalvinHobbes recommends should work fine.

When I had "Turn on only for Essential Windows programs..." option on thats when I first noticed my windows expolorer to crash when RARing up a large file. Once I entered Explorer into the exception (other option) it worked fine.

I'll try the first otion again and see what happend with my apps. I don't see how Nero and Alcohol are garbage as they are all highly used and recommended.

Don't see why DEP is needed if you have a firewall and AV scanners. - Oh well.....
