Does DEP operate on windows xp x64 service pack 1? becuse it sasy windows xp sevice pack 2 so and does DEP realy help? thanks

Yes, I think so. Check to see if you have the options to control it (system properties -> advanced -> performance settings).

does DEP realy help?

Yes, turn it on for everything and just add exceptions for your programs that don't work with it.
