I am using Win 7 64, and recently noticed that both options of the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) box are greyed out.-
The box informs that the function is related to bcdedit.exe, which I noticed is present not only in windows system 32, but in the EasyBCD aplication, which I used in my dual boot configuration, maybe it has something to do with the situation ?.-
Also, maybe my Macafee antivirus is preventing DEP to work ?
Thanks
Jorge

If your system has hardware support for DEP, do you have the option turned on in the system BIOS? Also, depending upon the version of Windows installed, you may also have to go into EasyBCD and activate DEP support there as well - it is likely, based upon the info you provided, that this is where your problem lies.

It should be on since you can't disable DEP if you're running a 64-bit OS, it's only an option in 32-bit OSes with PAE enabled because it's an optional feature of PAE.

My understanding is that 64-bit Windows mandates DEP on all 64-bit processes, but 32-bit processes are still configurable. Ordinarily the DEP panel would be user-configurable and would look like this (64-bit Vista in this example):

soldano, maybe your system's been configured elsewhere, resulting in the grayed-out options? You might try Microsoft's EMET utility, which will report on your DEP status, as well as a couple other system mitigation items: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...62559fd2f04&displayLang=en&displaylang=en

EMET showed DEP disabled, I enabled it within the aplication, but once rebooted, de DEP options remain grayed out.-
