DEP Crashing TF2

Recently, I have been experiencing game crashes on Steam due to DEP (Data Execution Prevention), one of the apparent wonderful tools for Vista that only causes me grief. Well, when this started with Empire: Total War, I was able to find the .exe and add it to the exception list to prevent that from crashing, but every time Dawn of War 2 or Team Fortress 2 crashes, it says hl2.exe was closed by DEP, even though I have it in my exception's list.

Does anyone know how to prevent DEP from crashing my Steam games? Apparently all but Empire: Total War think they are hl2.exe, but adding that exe file to the exception list does nothing.

disable dep for all programs and just have it enabled for windows files

I shall try that, but I was advised to never turn that option on. I shall try it and see what happens.

Does running Steam as an Administrator not avoid the DEP issue?

Nope. I am running as the Administrator and I still get the crashing.

I have had nothing but problems when running applications on a desktop system with DEP set to all applications, some programs just don't play nice.

If you've got a locked down system where you install a few applications, I could see leaving it on but for your average desktop its been nothing but problems for me.

I've not suffered any inconveniences from having it set to windows only.

I run my XP box the same way.
