Deodorant or Antiperspirant?

Growing up, I used deodorant until I was in junior high...then made the switch to antiperspirant about the time I started playing football. It seemed to keep my dry, etc... With all the mumbo jumbo/scare crap about aluminum going around, I decided to switch back a few months ago just to see if I could tell a big difference. (this was in the cooler months)

I made it through most of the summer and I'm still happy with just deodorant. It actually has a stronger smell than antiperspirant when I first apply it (which my wife doesn't seem to mind) I do sweat more when I'm outside, but don't mind as much as I thought I would. The deodorant actually does a decent job without the antiperspirant added in there...

Not gonig to do a poll, but what's your preference?

<--- chewing on aluminum can right now like a goat wearing antiperspirant. Whats that?

Clinical version of whatever I can get.
Works better.

Also, if you got a real problem and scrubbing doesnt help, trying increasing your manganese intake. Get some pills. After a couple days you can see the difference.

I never had severe sweating problems...but can work up a sweat when not working indoors with computers and such.. I just made the swtich to see if it bothered me...it hasn't thus far.

My cousin was diagnosed with Lymphoma, survived and sticks to the natural deodorants these days just to help minimize the chance that it contributed to his cancer... He claims they don't work quite as well and that he has to reapply often.

Old Spice seems to work the best for me, whatever the hell it is. I think it's antiperspirant since I don't sweat while wearing it.

I use both. Depends on the day, but today, which is a hot windy day, I am using Old Spice Swagger deodorant.

Oh, btw, I shave my armpits. Just because I have to. :awe:

I try to use neither, but if I'm in a situation where I'm going to sweat and have to smell good afterwards I use deoderant.

Antiperspirant works by forming a paste when it combines with your sweat and then clogging your sweat glands. That paste eventually builds up in the armpits of your shirts and is notoriously hard to wash out.

For me, it wasn't worth putting up with the drawbacks since I sweat like crazy anyway, so I stopped using antiperspirant and switched to deodorant. The best deodorant I found is Old Spice High Endurance. That stuff works almost indefinitely.

I'm supposed to sweat, so I only use deodorant.

experiment- go shit on the floor of a closet.

spray with lysol.

let stand 5-10 minutes.

lock yourself in closet.

now you know how the people around you feel.

Antiperspirant deodorant. Why use anything else?

Wear an undershirt.

I get antiperspirant with the most alum in it that I can find. I sweat a ton unless it's cold.

For reference it isnt the paste that stains your shirts, its the aluminum. Get some natural stuff if its an issue for you.

Deodorant. Aside from the possible health risks of antiperspirant, it really does a number on clothes. I've never had to scrub at the armpits of my shirts when wearing deodorant.

wtf? How much are you putting on? Swipe it back and forth ONCE. Don't cut the top inch with a butter knife then try to spread that out like peanut butter.

Right - that's how I put it on, just a swipe in each direction. If you're wearing big baggy shirts maybe you won't have a problem, but I ruined some nice fitted dress shirts that I wear every day for work.
