Denver hires John Fox

Hiring the coach of a last place team, why?

Can't blame Fox for all that. He had his two best RB's down most of the season. His all star WR was out most of the season. He had 3rd string QB's. His owner sold off a pro-bowl DE. And the owner intentionally did nothing to rebuild the team in light of these problems.

Yeah, there were tons of problems in Carolina this past year, including the lame-duck session that happened.

Fox's overall head coaching career at Carolina wasn't that bad. They made the playoffs 3 times, Super Bowl once, and he had a above .500 record.

They certainly could have done worse and the prime coaching candidates probably aren't going to way to come to Denver.

They were last place this year due to mostly injuries to key players. But the Panthers have only been a > .500 team three times in the nine seasons Fox has been coach, including one SB appearance.

Still better than what McDaniels did to the Broncos.

It does seem odd they would hire the coach of the last place team. He had some good years but not anytime recently.

Denver is on the up and up with Tebow and Elway. I guess up is the only way they can go, though 🙂

He's a good coach. He took a previously 1-15 carolina team to a superbowl 2 years later. His defensive mind is exactly what Denver needs.

Elway said that Tebow is not a NFL QB.

I still think he has potential. And personally... even though I love Elway as a QB, I question his ability to make front office decisions. When it was possible for Denver to get the first round pick, and that QB from Stanford could have entered the draft, Elway said he would push incredibly hard to draft him. So with a first pick he'd get ANOTHER QB instead of something we actually needed. That doesn't seem smart, and I'm sure has a lot more to do with Elway being a Stanford man and not with this QB being incredible. I mean he could be, but there's no telling how a rookie will turn out.

carolina owner used the no-cap year to go way under the normal minimum to save $$$$

You know, every sports league seems to have a few super cheapass owners. What is the point? They're typically billionaires who buy the team as a hobby, so why not try to make it successful? I'll never understand that mentality.

But Andrew Luck is not coming out of the draft this year. Maybe the Broncos could go 1-15 in 2011, and get their 1st round draft pick in 2012, and select Luck. 🙂

We know that now, but like I said... Elway was saying this before Luck announced he was finishing school, and even before he actually got back to the Broncos.
