How much does it cost for a cavity / first office visit?

I haven't been to the dentist in a few years, don't have dental insurance ... and know I have at least two cavities ... they don't hurt, but I know they're there.

they won't do a cavity on the first visit.

First they have to xray your mouth.
Then they tell you all the horrible things wrong.
Then they schedule you for 3 cleanings.
After those cleanings, they MAY start working on the problem.

I had my first visit in a LONG time last month. Its called a new patient visit. They inspect all your teeth and get xrays and do a gum/jaw line ratio thing. (sometimes they clean your teeth, but they didnt with mind.) said my mouth was too sensitive after all the prodding and we had to reschedule for a cleaning where they are going to do scaling (scrape the gums back and clean under them because its been so long since ive had a real cleaning.. thats 2 visits alone)

I dont have dental insurance either. My first visit was about $180 without the cleaning. I expect my next one to be even higher since they have to use drugs.

Oh and if you tell them you are really really afraid of the dentist they are MUCH nicer to you IMO :) So they tend not to be mean when they tell you how much you have wrong in your mouth.

Ok. I can handle the initial ... I should be cleaner than average, I have an Oral B 3d Excel ... I'm not so much afraid of the dentist as I just am the pain. The cavities don't hurt right now, but when they jam that dagger tool in there I'm sure it's gonna zing like a mofo.

I'm hoping it's not like $100-200 per cavity ... what if I have 5!?! eek!

I don't think they'll pull my gums back to clean, I had some enamel put on the sides of some of my teeth before because it was eroding, it was very sensitive ...

Its not necessarily your eating/brushing habits... some people just have bad teeth. My little brother brushes his teeth atleast 3 times a day and has atleast 10+ fillings from cavities. Dentist said its bad teeth.
