Dentist fees?

5 cavities filled (2 on first visit, 3 on second visit) and 2 visits for cleaning, which give a total of 4 visits. He's charging $530 total for this AFTER insurance...is this normal or should I find a different guy? Haven't been to the dentist in like 5 years, this was the first time in a while.

Which reminds me, I need to get 3 wisdom teeth pulled soon...about how much would this cost, assuming I get local anesthetic?

Sounds pretty standard. Note that he cannot charge any more than what his agreement with the insurance says he can.

I had 4 cavities filled and it was like $900. No insurance but lucky i have a Visa card.

Yeah, dentist fees have largely gone unregulated in the medical field (while fees for medical expenses are regulated to the bitter end). It equates to highway robbery but there's not much you can do about it. Not that medical costs are cheap, but compared to dentists its a bargain.

..our litigious society has seriously run up their liability insurance. That's part of what your paying for.

price/filling depends on how many surfaces on each tooth the decay had gotten into which = how large the filling is and cost increases with size.

Wow! That's insane with insurance. Mine was like $150 deductible i think, no matter how much it was.

I showed up late on the first visit, so he didn't even start cleaning that time. He simply checked over em and went over what he was going to do the following week when I show up on time.

Check you insurance. Their agreement with the doc will determine the cost.

Looks like the ins company only paid about $200 bucks of the total amount, which was $729

Dentist is expensive.

Wait until you need to get some work on crown, bridge, rootcanal, etc.. Those will run you in thousands, not hundreds.
