It can also be used with the Denon AVR-1910 making it $389.87 shipped. Bing cashback is 6.3%. It's supposed to not work with coupon codes, but sometimes it still does.

Excellent upscaling (Anchor Bay 2010) but only decent power and no pre-outs. If you don't watch a lot of SD sources you could also get the Onkyo SR707 with less good upscaling, the same Audyssey, more power (THX Select2 Plus certified) and pre-outs for the same price.

Home Cinema Choice magazine did reviews of the Onkyo 707 and Denon 2310, and includes measurements for each (@ 0.5% distortion). The Denon measured 153W x 2 channels, and 105W x 5 channels. The Onkyo measured 120W x 2 channels, and 29W with 5 channels driven. Now HCC pointed out that the abysmal multichannel performance of the 707 is due to the limiters Onkyo uses that kick in even at low distortion... but the 2 channel performance jives with what Sound & Vision measured out of the Onkyo 706 (122W x 2, 75W x 5).

Basically, the Denon 2309/2310 measure better than the Onkyo 706/707, despite the Onkyo's higher spec and THX certification. Not to mention, the 706, like many Onkyo AVR's is known for getting pretty hot, and some worry about long term reliability with these. This may or may not be an issue with the new *07 line.

The lack of pre-outs on the Denon is disappointing though. IMO, it has everything else in it's favor but this...

Eh, pre outs are a minor issue in this price range IMHO. Given the choice based on the comparison you just made, I can't see getting the Onkyo over the Denon.

Of course, this deal comes 2 weeks after I bought a refurb AVR-790 for ~$350. Oh well.
