Denon AHD2000 vs. Sony MDR-V900HD?

They are both about the same price and I'm replacing some older Sony MDR-V900's that I bought about 8 years ago. I've never used the Denon's but have read some great reviews.

I have narrowed my purchase down to these two and I'll be using them with my Computer/MP3 Player.

Any advice on which one?

I would say the Denon's but I haven't heard much of anything about the sony's.

For about $100 more you could get the Hd 650s. I am admittedly a little bias towards them, my favorite cans ever.

I've looked at other higher end headphones and the problem I always come back to is the higher impedance and the fact that I don't want to use a mini Amplifier with the headphones. I tried some Beyer Dynamics 880's once and loved them except I had to crank up the volume too much and they didn't work well with my Guitar Amp. I need some good low impedance cans that work well with anything.

You should also check out the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 and Shure SRH840.

I think you'll want a more studio aimed headphone than the Denon's as I don't think they'll be good to wear while playing guitar, the Denon's just don't clamp enough and sit a bit loose on the head.

I think you wouldn't go wrong with any of them.

I own the Sony MDR-V900HD and they are great for "monitor" use. When I compare with my v700dj I dont dig the v900hd because I cant "feel" the sound like I can on the 700djs. I also have a problem with the build quality. I have had them about 3 years and had to replace the ears twice. My 700djs are over 7 years old and are on the same earmuffs. And I hardly use the 900hds. Anyhoot, my 2 cents.
