Denial of Service internet virus?

I'm in Seattle on comcast cable Internet. The Internet is incredibly sluggish and the cable modem lights are going nuts, similar to the code red denial of service attacks. Anyone else experiencing trouble? I've heard many rumors that hackers were gearing up for a DOS attack.
