What do you think is possible within the limitations of a 4KB application?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YWMGuh15nE

Demos are simply that. A demonstration, and in this case of ones coding ability. Agility on formula manipulation. Basically, Ive found a fully fledge 3D game with Quake 2-esk graphics at 128KB. That includes textures, music and a 3d engine. D:

These are just a time waster. Im going though all my bookmarks to clean shit out and found this again from a few years back. Its just a bunch of people trying to out-do each other in different categories; 128KB, 64KB, 32, 16, 8, 4, and even into the B range its amazing some of stuff people can squeeze into these tiny programs.

It seems like 64KB is the standard and anything less is where a lot of the skill come into play, although larger ones can have a ton of content in them. Ive seen a 64KB demo that had graphics like HL2. Quite amazing.

For anyone that has an appreciation of ultra small and clever code I point you to download a Demo from a demoscene site http://www.pouet.net/

Not sure how many of them work, last I checked this out was in 07 and about half I clicked on worked. Trying to find that 3D game again.. If you find a cool one post the link! :)

EDIT: Here is a better link to some of the better ones through the years. /pat self on back for learning how to sort lists http://www.pouet.net/prodlist.php?platform[]=Windows&order=thumbup

Really? No one amazed by this stuff? Im no programmer myself, but some of these things are absolutely incredible. Sheer talent and cleverness went into some of this shit.

Its brilliant stuff, if you cant get them to work (many dont work for me for w7) some have youtube vids. The one I linked was one of the better I looked at.

I'm hoping I dont have to explain to anandtech OT the importance of these things being created within 4-32 KB of code. If youre reading this, the page alone that youre looking at consists of 5-20 times the amount of code that these took to make. In a world where we are used to 8GB games, I show you a 4KB creation. The only demos ive been into were the ones from razor1911, fairlight, class etc. love the music for them too. but yea, the eye candy in such a small package is pretty damn impressive.

The only razor1911 ive been exposed to is in rip packages. *cough* :sneaky::sneaky:

But they were like 192KB for a simple sup to the 'scene' and not especially impressive. Most of this list ive never heard of. Heaven7 is one that comes off the top of my head from years ago.

Im impressed OP...I remember playing the FPS one that was released a few years ago...projeck or something like that...this technology really is truly amazing. Even if the graphics arent 100% up to todays standards...some of them, like the one you linked to in the Youtube could be quite good for flight sims and what not.

I wonder how exactly they do this...I remember reading something like...its all code and everything is created on the fly instead of already created in textures and audio formats and what not like games are today...either case, really cool tech for sure!

I think its technology called intelligence. It's not something that can really be held onto unless you can own people. :D
