Demolition Derby games

So, I LOVE Derby games. Something just fun about ramming vehicles into another vehicles. There really haven't been many true derby games over the years.

Grid 1 had a figure 8 track derby game that I liked a lot, however I had it on PC and didn't have a touch sensitive controller so it made it rather difficult to play effectively which made it frustrating.

Having just picked up a PS3 they had Grid 2 free for PS+. I didn't hear much good about it, but d/l it anyway for the derby only to discover it didn't even have a derby mode this time. I was disappointed but enjoyed the game anyway.

Last night I discovered they released a free DLC add on for it. YAY. I got it, and WOW I LOVE IT!. I will say it is sort of disappointing it is just 1 track, and they only let you use one car. There is so much potential here for a very fun game mode and can't believe no one has really done this genre justice yet. You would think they could have at least added a parking lot with a last man standing mode, for variation rather than just 1 track.

So there be my long way to my question. Are there other games out there with good multiplayer derby sub games?

I am not talking about Twisted Metal or any of those similar games. I've played them over the years and they are ok, but it's not exactly the same thing with all the powerups long range weapons etc.

Motorstorm was pretty decent. Not demo derby per say but you are encouraged to ram opponents. Haven't played that one in ages.

burnout is probably as close to a demolition derby as you will get now a days. they have a mode in it where you try to takedown other cars by ramming into them. burnout paradise is the most recent one which is great, but burnout revenge is also a great game as well. i'm sure you could find both of those games dirt cheap at this point.

Wat?

OP, sadly, the Destruction Derby games are gone, as far as AA titles are concerned. Even the most silly ones like Twisted Metal are gone.

There have been a few games with that as a side mission (Saints Row, etc.).

I so pray that they make a new BO game for the new gens. So incredibly fun.

I am sure they will. The Burnout games are usually pretty well received outside of the "omg it's not a sim" crowd. Which is surprising, because they hail the GT games as sims, yet they are closer to Burnout and NFS than an actual sim.

when did that happen? I just googled newgen and BO and it seems that in early 2013 there was some tweet or posting asking "What would you like to see in Burnout 2?" -- which obviously started the rumor mill flowing.

it was a long time ago. and it seems after burnout paradise, they just put all the criterion guys on the nfs series. hell the nfs game that came out right after burnout paradise literally had the same map as burnout paradise, down to the stunt park in the air field. i think it also did have some minor changes, but for the most part it was the same world to drive around in.
