The whole thing's grade school-level silly. We all know GWB is no orator, and that's far from his worst accidental blunder while speaing.

It seems from the article that it was more bloggers and reporters making a big deal than actualy Democrats in office. It's not like Bush has never said something incorrectly before. I mean jeez, the man at times has had serious trouble forming a coherent sentence, how is leaving off two letter even worth reporting on?

yes was a real issue for some left wing blogs, but I don't have time to dig em up for links heading to work(ic) now.

Apparently, it's some sort of back-handed Republican insult to call them the "Democrat Party" versus the proper "Democratic Party." Frankly, I don't get it, but perhaps only the GOP are 'in the know' on this?

One party owns that name? Talk about stupid.

I wouldn't go as far as calling the party stupid as well. they're elitist, college educated intellectuals, remember? :)

I think its just continuing proof the GWB&co. hold the democratic party in contempt. I think in the coming months you will see that contempt extend to both democratic and republican collective members of congress.

But I believe it will come to pass that the legislative branch will have to rein in GWB&co. And for that matter, a good part of the administrations grief now comes from the republican side of the aisles.

Hmm, I seem to notice the party not doing a whole lot of anything...they seem to think this is a non-story just as much as the rest of us. The phrasing IS a Republican slight dating back quite a ways (something I don't quite understand), but after 6 years of being called traitors or worse, I don't think this is bothering most Democrats. I find it pretty amusing that Bush seems shocked at the mistrust though, since he spent the last 6 years seemingly doing everything in his power to create that environment.

Yeah... while I do say that it's not worth the trouble to make a stink about it...

Everyone should be very clearon the fact that Bush said that on purpose, and definitely meant it as an insult. If you look back on what he's said in the past, he nearly always refers to them as the "Democrat" party.

So... while it seems a bit pointless to argue about it, it is incredibly childish of our president to behave in that way.

Expanding on that theme, you should remember that this wasn't Bush pal-ing around off camera with his buds. It was the State of the Union, a formal event where you address people by their proper titles.

I wasn't personally offended. I just thought it was childish for Bush to still be using playground names on the Democratic Party.

The word on the blogs is that it is an old term Sen. Mccarthy used to show contempt for dems when he got into his desperate commie baiting mode.

Pretty sleazy if bush did it on purpose.

I doubt it was on purpose, but I'm sure GWB didn't know that Democratic was the true name of the party until he was informed here.

I did the same thing in a thread on here and someone took the time to point it out.
I guess Bush and I have something in common.

yeh, them dems are a might too touchy.tisk-tisk-tisk.

why, i'm sure not one republic party member would be miffed at all if a democratic president started referring to the republic party as the "republic party".

hell's bells, i bet all the republic party members of the republic party would gladly change the name of the republic party to the "republic party" just to show the democratic party that the republic party thinks that calling them the republic party is absolutely nothing to make a fuss over. republic party members, you show'um.

from this day forward, set the example and start calling yourselves members of the republic party because it ain't no big deal, really.

I'm sure the Democratic party can find more important things to bicker about.
