Note the source, not from FoxNews or WallStreet Journal but USAToday. Ryan/GOP proposal is not perfect IMO, not enough defense cut and nothing on SS.

There's simply no way to reduce deficits without including entitlement programs in the solution and making lots of people unhappy.......

Democrats have already begun to demonize the Ryan plan, but where is theirs? Two bipartisan deficit panels produced serious, workable proposals last year, which President Obama treated as if they had cooties. Asked Tuesday about Ryan's plan, Obama said merely that he looks forward to having a "conversation" about the parties' "sharply contrasting visions."............

It's hard to have a serious debate, though, if one side appears to be in denial about the extent of the problem. Democrats' lack of an alternative suggests that all they really support is the unsustainable status quo.

Both parties are a joke. Cutting 4% of the deficit ($61 billion) is nothing in the grand scheme of things, but that's the best that is even being recommended. That will leave a deficit of $1.439 TRILLION. But the Dems call such cuts "draconian?" Really? What a waste of air. The GOP is terrible for doing far too little and the Dems are even worse for demanding that they do nothing. Neither has the will to do what needs to be done - not even close.

By the same token, understand that means I'm not arguing what you just said but adding to it, the Republicans will not include tax increases into their proposals. They are equally to blame for not addressing the issues or stepping up to the table to compromise.

One thing should be obvious, nobody wants to provide a plan because whatever the plan is it won't sell with the American people. Obama isn't stupid. He is not going to present a plan that is unpopular and hand the Republicans ammunition. He is standing back and waiting for them to shoot themselves first.

The American people want deficit reduction but they don't want cuts in entitlements, most of the budget, they don't want cuts in defense, the second biggest part, I think, and in fact are only in a majority on cutting foreign aid. That is 1% of the budget. So any politician who has a plan will be removed by the people. And Rand's plan will go nowhere for the reasons you mentioned. Totally unbalanced and non-bipartisan.

There is only one plan that is going to work and that is the plan that says fuck you to the American people, who, in turn will say fuck you back at the next election.

Only a plan that accommodates cuts in all areas and tax increases will work and they will all have to buy into it so nobody can point fingers. They are going to have to make the American people grow up, but they will have to grow up themselves first.

These are interesting times.

If the Democrats had a plan, they would have passed it last year... you know... when they were supposed to.
