Democrats are for the Poor and Middle Class...or are they?

The setting, a certain East Coast city which had started to convert a vacant firehouse into a shelter for homeless women. Officials overseeing the construction had spent a $160,000 of federal grant money on the project when abruptly work was called off.

Turns out, the location was a big 'oops.' District officials belatedly realized that it would be next to the site of 765 luxury apartments. Apartment developers complained and, pronto, heartless officials did their bidding. Officials suddenly discovered that the project lacked an environmental clearance, lacked an affirmative action plan, lacked a pre-construction conference - and whatever other excuses were handy.

They shut the shelter down, and quicker than you could say, "Get out," city officials put the homeless back in their place. The ninety women affected by this reversal are now shoved into seven trailers, which were designed as a temporary solution back in 1987. The city's deputy mayor for economic development admitted that the women had to be relocated because the shelter didn't mix with the mayor's vision of a residential community.

In other words, the winners of life's lottery will get their luxury apartments. Homeless women will get the shaft. This is a true story folks, in a city where homeless women are very often minorities. Which makes you wonder if there was a racial component.

The point is, if you want to see politicians devoid of compassion, favoring the rich at the expense of the poor, then just visit Washington DC, where this story happened. It's a town run by Democrats.

Politicians are politicians are politicians. It's not as though Washington D.C. (a city that re-elected the post-crack Marion Berry) is known as the paragon of principled politics anyway, regardless of party. I think a little digging would reveal stories like this one in every major city in America, at one time or another. Sigh . . .

And what party controls most big cities?

DC has been a Democrat stronghold since god was a kid....they have instituted every Democrat program they can, but if you look close.....they don't want you to do that or you get called names...

To play devils advocate, would you want a homeless shelter next to where you live?

That's not the point Gittyup. The point is that when it comes down to it, Democrats are in it to please their big campaign contributors as much as the Republicans are. Anybody who thinks the Democrats are on the side of the little guy has been bamboozled.

I understand the point. I agree that all politiciains suck, regardless of party lines. I am just making the comment that I would not want a homeless shelter where I live and raise my children..

Hey where's the link to this story? I want to read it. Not that I don't believe you, but I don't believe or trust anything you say. So I would like to read it myself. :D

Maybe I'm politically ignorant here, but where in that article is there even a remote reference to the democratic party?

Just another example of conservative think:
Take one bad story, and turn it into liberal policy.
Take faulty logic, and paint an entire group of people with the same brush.

Republicans are into labels. If they can label you, they diminish you as a person, and feel better about belittling you. Problem is, some of us are not affected by the gross fumbling of feeble minded conservatism.

Keep prattling on, Tominator. I will be over here yawning.

Proud to be nonpartisan.
