I know I know the New York Times is some conservative leaning disreputable rag.... but....

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/16/us/politics/bernie-sanders-democratic-party.html

The discussion about Mr. Sanders has to date been largely confined to private settings because — like establishment Republicans in 2016 — Democrats are uneasy about elevating him or alienating his supporters.

The matter of What To Do About Bernie and the larger imperative of party unity has, for example, hovered over a series of previously undisclosed Democratic dinners in New York and Washington organized by the longtime party financier Bernard Schwartz. The gatherings have included scores from the moderate or center-left wing of the party, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California; Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the minority leader; former Gov. Terry McAuliffe of Virginia; Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind., himself a presidential candidate; and the president of the Center for American Progress, Neera Tanden.

Huh... I guess since they missed out on the working against Bernie Boat in the last cycle this election is a good place to start huh?

You know...i f there had been a VP pick like Sen. Warren instead of goofy Time Kaine who tweeted about Hillary's victory before all of the EC votes were tallied; we probably would not about who is going to win the Democratic Primary but instead be wondering if Trump would enter the Republican Primary again and how entertaining it would be to watch their clown-car.

Beto beat out Bernie in first 24 hours of funding. 6.1 million. Now comes the long slog to next spring and who can continue to fund raise and keep momentum.

Which according to CNN included $300k that he cannot used for the nomination race....
https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/17/poli...sanders-q1-white-house-fundraising/index.html

The monster $6.1 million haul that Beto O'Rourke touted in the first day of his presidential campaign included nearly $300,0000 that he can't use for the Democratic nomination fight.

Isn't it interesting that they announced this to prop up Beto with enough weeks before the required FEC filings that most would forget....

sorry not sorry....

Lol at calling Pelosi or Schumer center-left. In the UK they'd be Tories.

Yes most Americans have been successfully gaslighted by the Plutocrats/Oligarchs into believing America is a conservative country...

No it's voter suppression and the EC that has lead to the recent Republican Presidents.

So Joe Biden has officially thrown his stupid hat into the ring. Time to start shooting people through your doors, or at least start firing warning shots. Apparently Democrats think that because a clown car was successful for the GOP it will work for the Democrats, too. Similar to how MSNBC really gives Fox News a run for their money.

Let's have a look at his slogan: America is an Idea

Fuck the warning shot, I'm going to save some time and just blow my fucking head off.

Perhaps "Americans don't have a clue"? :D

I couldn't and probably shouldn't make a choice at this time but enough of the major players have shown up with Biden so I'll opine with Warren. She knows the system but hopefully isn't a stealth candidate for the establishment. If Joe gets the nod then like any fossil in the race close attention needs to be paid to the VP choice.

The stupid "vaguely inspirational music" in the background of Biden's candidacy ad sounds like it was plagrarized from a 1970s B-movie and I was almost expecting a dubover from this guy:

Biden should offer Trump his VP slot. The Republicans won't know what hit them. I'm sure many times, Trump has glanced enviously at Pence and thought "Why isn't that dummy golfing more? If I was VP, I'd golf a lot more."

All else being equal, I'd prefer a younger President.

All else is never equal.

Just so I've got it out there...I'm 41, white, male, married and in top 5% of income earners. Absolutely nothing about Bernie or Biden appeal to me. It's going to be a long 10 months or so before primaries start kicking in. Biden throwing in will turn this into a shitshow.

Damn, I can't believe Bernie's message doesn't resonate with the top 5%.

Welcome to the race Sleepy Joe. I only hope you have the intelligence, long in doubt, to wage a successful primary campaign. It will be nasty - you will be dealing with people who truly have some very sick & demented ideas. But if you make it, I will see you at the Starting Gate!

The top 5% still looks broke as fuck to the ultra elites that GOP pander to. I still clip coupons, buy my american cheese in a 5 pound brick at sam's club split it up and freeze it. Mow my own yard, send my kids to public schools and and work for a state funded organization. I am comfortable. I ain't rich.

You call this a clown car? Were you in a damn coma from 2014-2016 or something?

Actually, last time I looked on Wiki (couple months ago) this Demo clown car was like 1 or 2 candidates away from beating the republican one. I'm pretty sure at this point it has surpassed it now.

EDIT: Just checked. Of those that have declared, there were 22 candidates for the 2016 republican primary.

As of right now, there are 22 democrat candidates that have declared for the 2020 democrat primary.

Clown car is full :p You're easily going to beat it.

So what percentage from the top is the point where you no longer despise people for their money? Bernie is higher up on the income pecking order than Vi, so you should hate him too. I suppose Bernie must be lying and he's just trying to get more so congrats on sniffing him out.

As much as this must be a shock to you, people may support or dislike policies regardless of income. Yes that happens. Oh, I voted for Bernie in our primary in my state.

Alienating 5% of the electorate when that's less than the typical margin of victory in presidential elections is a curious strategy. Seeming like you're proud of alienating them is even more curious. Most folks including the 5% will accept a candidate they don't totally agree with but if you hold them out as an actual enemy of the other 95% then gaining that acceptance is probably out of reach.

So no insurance premiums, deductibles or copays doesn't sound like it might help you just a bit? Got kids? I hope you have been saving $600 each per month since they were born if you expect to pay for their college.

lol he will easily surpass all of that with new taxation.

Just because you don't see it itemized/marked as insurance premiums, deductibles, copays on your paycheck, doesn't mean that isn't what you're actually paying it.

Yeah I'll openly admit I'm an ageist. I don't want an octogenarian (or if we're splitting gray hairs, will be one during their term) in the oval office. So far Mayor Pete has been one of the few out there that has really made sit down and listen to what he says. He's actually a person that when he speaks, I want to listen to what he has to say. Not many others have resonated quite like that.

This is a foolish claim. Government will be buying both in bulk and all of those savings will be passed on to you. This is how every other country is able to provide better outcomes for half the money that we spend. On top of that, undoing the huge tax breaks for billionaires will go a long way to reducing the tax burden for everyone else.

I am as well. I have heard much about Pete that sounds good. I also read just yesterday that he has gotten more money from lobbyists than anyone else. I have not fact-checked that claim but if it is true it is something to consider.

I figured you are, so I was confused why you would proclaim that absolutely nothing appeals to you about Bernie.

It's more the person than the policy. There's so many people in this pool you can afford to be selective.

I get that, but if it weren't for Bernie it is likely we wouldn't even be having these discussions and it is likely the Dems would not be adopting most of his policy proposals in some form or another. Additionally, he has the rare ability to appeal to conservatives in a way I haven't seen elsewhere. His age does really bother me as well, and it is the primary reason I have not selected him as my choice right now, but we will have a much more difficult time winning if we can't find a candidate that can do what he does so well.
