"One could say that Usama bin Laden and these non-nation-state fighters with religious purpose are very similar to those kind of atypical revolutionaries that helped to cast off the British crown."
Her response after being criticized for this:
"My comments were intended to point out that what faces us is a rising revolution being felt across repressive regimes of the Arab and Islamic world. That revolution is aimed at casting off the existing order. Not to recognize the magnitude of the fervor that is being turned against America is to ignore the real enemy.
"The American people understand the power of revolution. It is in that context that I referred to the American Revolution. World powers have been born out of revolution. Terrorism in the name of revolution is not acceptable. Ever."
- From the Toledo Blade
I think she deliberatly made the allusion to our founding fathers to take a jab at those (the Republican administration) who are activly trying to combat terrorism by implying that they are being hypocritical when, afterall, those poor terrorists are just like our founding fathers. I think it was a partisan play that back-fired and her explanation does not jive with the gravity of her original statment. Yes, they have a religeous ferver, so say they have a religeous ferver; don't use the term "very similar" when referring to terrorists who blow up children and people who protested unfair taxation by dumping tea into the ocean.
