Interesting results to say the least...

Poll question: What is more depressing . . 9/11/01 or 11/3/04?

What happened on 9/11 or what happened the day after Election Day, 2004?

Poll result (206 votes)
9/11/01 (60 votes, 29%) Vote
11/03/04 (146 votes, 71%)

I said the election for several reasons:
-9/11 was more sad and angering then it is depressing

-9/11 was more of a reflection on others anger and hatred which I don't think is as sad as the election which reflects America's anger and hatred.

How about, "I don't know yet"? If the terrorists manage to sneak a weapon of mass destruction through our entirely unprotected borders while the crusade continues in Iraq, I'd definately say 11/3/04 was more depressing.

Big surprise that you put politics above the deaths of 3,000 innocents.

I can't think of a more stunning or depressing day in my lifetime than 9/11.

Well, this election could very well cost more than 3,000 lives, especially when you consider long-term consequences and Bush's failure to control nuclear proliferation.

I'm not sure, strictly from a word-choice standpoint, that I would call 9/11 depressing.

It was far WORSE, at least IMO, than the election. More shocking, more cataclysmic, more moving, sadder - all of the above. But to me "depressing" implies the event created a long-term emotional dampening, and I don't recall being at all depressed after 9/11.

I was incredibly angry, shaken up, numbed even, but in a lot of ways 9/11 just made me happier to put on my uniform every day and go to work (and, at the end of Sep 01, to go to the Middle East).

So, although I don't think the sky is falling, and, again, I don't think the election was worse than 9/11, it was, for me, more disappointing and yes, more depressing.

I agree, Gaard, I've had a very blessed life. Now that I think about it, I have had a more depressing day, but not a more stunned day.

Either way, I would think that 9/11 is the one thing that we all have in common, that goes beyond politics. Of course, I'm probably naive.

Borrowing the logic that those who bump off abortion doctors use now, are we?

I see you've quoted me in your sig Alchemize. Will you stop posting if I am proven right?

And 9/11 has nothing on 11/03 in terms of being stunning and depressing.

Not long after the attacks, I stood at the site where the WTC fell. I remember watching on TV as men and women jumped to their deaths, and I could see impressions in the pavement that were roughly human-sized.

I don't generally want to be rude, but only a FOOL would even make such a comparison. A presidential election is NOTHING like what America experienced that day, NOTHING like what those people were forced to choose.

This is a disgusting question that should be repugnant to anyone with a TRACE of civilization in their soul.

Wow...3000 + of your FELLOW AMERICANS died on Sept 11th, and people can actually click on 11/03/04? The people that were killed on that day were not from a particular party....it could have been any of us. I will go so far to say that anyone who has the gall to click on the election date as more depressing should have gone up in flames on Sept 11th, the people who died that day would have given anything to see 11/03/04...no matter WHO won.

Anyone who selects 11/03/04 should be ashamed, its trully a new low...pathetic

9-11 was FRIGGIN SAD when it happened.
Having your CANDIDATE LOSE was FRIGGIN SAD when it happened.
I guess the sadness of 9-11 died down, but I was really depressed when it happened. Similarly, I'm pissed that JFK lost, but I think that pissy-ness will die down... in about 3 years

Haha, what a bunch of twits. I knew that p&n was nicely full of stupidity, but that DU place is teaming with it. It's not just full, but overflowing and spilling everywhere. It doesn't even really merit argument.

What do you think of what I said, above?
That's a glass half-full way of looking at it, but I think you probably thought more on the question than most people; the use of the word depressed is not really appropriate for this possibly. :)

9-11 was FAR more depressing. It's STILL negativly affecting our way of life and the direction of the world, 3 years after it happened. 3,000 innocent people lost their lives to sub-human murderers, I hope the hijackers and their supporters rot for eternity.
