Hey CAD, I Didn't think there was any such thing as Democrats in Iowa.

5-6-2004 Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, Rumsfeld's ouster "for the good of our country, the safety of our troops, and our image around the globe.

"It's the accumulation of all these miscalculations, misconceptions and missteps ? and an arrogant inability to admit his mistakes ? that require him to step down"

Rumsfeld himself has deflected questions about whether he should resign.

But the complaints have crystallized now ? especially among Democrats, but even among Republicans ? over the pictures of prisoner abuse by U.S. forces, and whether the Pentagon informed Congress or the president soon enough about the growing investigations.

"The Congress ... has been kept completely in the dark," McCain said.

Yes, we have a democrat Governor in tom pillage-N-sack (Vilsack) who is putting on a show for the kerry camp. We also have a leftist democrat US Senator that goes by the name of tom harkin. He's a liberal through and through. The only reasons we have these two people in office is because of 2-3 small areas of the state(DesMoines, Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area, and the Quad cities area)

Remember - harkin endorsed howie "the snowflake storm" dean - ooops:p

This is just political bluster like I stated in the POLL thread. The leftists have been searching for something to oust Rummy with and they think this is it. Too bad for them though - they'll get Wolfowitz if they succeed:p Buahahahaha!!!!

Oh of course, nevermind sometimes a city Brownstone can fetch a couple of million while a huge tract out in the sticks is worth tumbleweeds, of course how can I forget.

don't forget the other liberal senator from Iowa Chuck "Rainforest" Grassley
Trade Adjustment Assistance for Farmers

Q: How does Iowa fare under the current system?

A:The USDA paid out $739.9 million in subsidies to 119,308 Iowa farmers last year. Iowa's top farm payment recipient ranked 1,947th on the national list with $255,038 in farm payments in 2002. The top recipient nationwide, Riceland Foods in Arkansas, received a whopping $110 million from the federal treasury in 2002. Unlimited farm subsidies encourage growth and expansion by the biggest operators, pushing up the price of farmland and cash-rent rates. Right now we're in a situation where the top 20 percent of the recipients nationally between 1995 and 2002 received 73 percent of the total payments, while the remaining 80 percent of the recipients received only 27 percent of the payments. In the last seven years, Iowa has received $10.2 billion, the most of any other state. Restricting what large corporate farms receive won't hurt Iowa. If left as is, the distribution system that pays out the lion's share of federal dollars to the largest and wealthiest farming units will spell the beginning of the end of the farm safety net. It's time to enact legitimate, reasonable payment limits that plug the loopholes, tighten eligibility requirements and help those the farm program was created to help in the first place. The Senate last year adopted my amendment to limit farm payments during debate on the farm bill. But the amendment failed to receive approval by the House of Representatives. This fall, I'm pushing to include my payment cap amendment on the annual farm spending bill making its way through Congress.

If you don't think both Harkin and Grassley bring in the pork to rural farmers then you are deluding yourself. Harkin can win because of his support in the unions and because of his support with small farmers.

I never said they didn't bring subsidies to farmers:roll: Ofcourse I'm the one on here who is trying to push for wider acceptance of biodiesel and ethanol so farmers can eventually grow a profitable crop WITHOUT gov't subsidies...but it seems people don't like those ideas and would rather have the subsidies.
harkin gets support from libbies, and Grassely gets support of Conservatives - regardless of their profession of choice - be it in a Union or as a farmer.

harkin is the gephardt of Iowa - his time is long gone. He is done as an Iowa politician next go around if he even tries to run again. He screwed up royally by supporting dean - the party won't forget that...but he's trying to get back in thier good graces(and kerry's) by saying these outlandish things. Pure party politics - nothing more - nothing less.
