Like I said, votes still trump money. If the 1M doesn't like it, they can easily outvote the 10k. The politician will take reelection over money every time.

If the 1M is sleeping, then the 10k has every right to push their agenda, that's not the 10k's fault. The problem is that the 1M are asleep, not that the 10k is spending money.

Right now how many citizens votes would it take to keep Congress passing a SOPA like law?

When money is corrupting elections, both sides are going to have some bad donations if they don't want to just not get elected.

It's easy for either side to cherry pick the other's bad donations and make them look bad. The real issue is the rules; the secondary issue is which party is 'worse'.

This is clearly a situation where an interest, 'Hollywood', gives money and wants the threat of piracy addressed to keep donating.

That's uglier than not having the money involved and having them make their case based on the merits rather than money.

But there a lot larger and far worse donors.

It's not clear to me how the interests are broken down between legitimate interests to reduce piracy, and interests who want a more excessively internet-damaging bill.

I think the anti-piracy concerns are legitimate, and the desire of some mega media companies who want to harm the internet for profit are a big danger.

Ok fair enough. Perhaps the corporation, since it is a person, should be able to donate no more than I can to a an individual politician.

Politicians should just cut out the Middleman and put their Vote up on Ebay. Why wait for certain parties to come to you when you can go to them?

It's a Market based solution to the problem of Bribery.

I found Dodd's comments revolting, but I wouldn't sign this unless someone with some relevent legal expertise chimes in. As disgusting as I find his behavior, it doesn't seem to me like he is breaking the law.

I'd have to ask people why his situation should be singled out from other lobbying.

Does anyone doubt that many donations are targeted to policymakers who are doing what the donor wants, that people don't just give money for no reason?

There are two types - the 'access' type where you give just because they have power and you hope to get access, the other is to help someone who is doing what you want.

Dodd isn't doing anything different than what lobbying is - partly for a less bad cause.

It's a lot worse having the lobbying be for allowing pollution and finance schemes than for reducing piracy.

It's not for reducing piracy, it's for increasing monopoly power and rent-seeking.

But then as long it's a Democrat pet industry, monopolies and rent-seeking are OK, right Craig?

They already do that.

I am a Democrat and I will give you free shit. Don't worry how we are going to pay for it, those 'evil' 1%ers will pay for it

And here we see just how transparent this anti-corruption administration can be:

https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/!/response/why-we-cant-comment

Hope and change!

To be fair if they were taking action they would not comment in the same way that police say very little about ongoing investigations.

Of course that assumes they are taking action. I think the odds of them doing anything about this are as likely as Biden stopping by my apartment with a check for $1M this afternoon.

Knowing Biden, I wouldn't be too surprised if that happens. He'd likely confuse you and your house for the house of the RIAA president.

What are you complaining about> Think about it . Many here believe we have real honest elections in this country . LOL . Try reading history on subject matter . Yes Dobb threw it in our faces that WE THE PEOPLE < THE corperations. If corperations are people also . Were are the treason charges in war about corperations doing business with both sides that is treason. But what the hell why should you care . This info is free to the world . But watch the same people get put into gooberment jobs because most USA people are afraid of own shadow and will vote these traitors back into office . Your either with them or against them. When all hell breaks loose this spring all I can say is . Its better to die free than to live in slavery. You think because you can watch what ever Football game or movie or anything one does is freedom your a fool. Even GOD gave man 1 day a week to rest . NOT WORSHIP. REST!!!!! The sabbath and Gods Great day are not the same thing . Nowere does it say otherwise.

What does this even mean?
