Ok...since I have run into a number of folk who do not know about what we are ....in this great US of A, I feel that I have to speak my piece. Of course, I do know that most who frequent this BBS are up to snuff on this, but it is something to be talked about in light of what is happening in FL.
WE DO NOT HAVE A DEMOCRACY! There, I said it. People, we live in a REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC. What that means is that we choose people to represent us, as in our leaders, and in the electoral college. They then are to do our bidding. In the case of the electoral it is supposed to be pretty cut and dried, not always that way in congress.
When the constitution was set up, the fear was that large cities in large states would dictate to smaller states. We have the same problem today. If you look at the largest metro areas, they are increasingly liberal. Voting in masse could mean that these centers of large populace could very well hold large sway over the rest of the country, if the outcome of the national election were determined by one man, one vote.
There is a cry to change this. Well, thats fine ...but it takes 38 (I think) states to change the constitution. Lets not allow politians to hoodwink us into allowing anything rash to take place. Our freedoms depend on the constitution being upheld.
