Wonder how the Cayanne will affect it. It is not in the same class, but I wouldn't be suprised if it could somewhat upset both automakers sales.

<< I'd say we might see X3 in early 2003 as a 2004 model with the new 6- and 1-Series following shortly after. For those who haven't seen the BMW X5 4.6is in person, it is truly a site to behold. Easily the most beautiful SUV. >>

Personally I think it looks like a tennis shoe! A nice looking tennis shoe, but a tennis shoe none the less.

I've seen the X5 in person (and only on paved roads), IMO it's not really great looking. As far as SUVs go, it's downright ugly (remember, this is just an opinion)

The looks are OKAY... It's just overpriced... It's barely got the room of my Rodeo, for twice the money... What a joke. Sometimes I think part of the reputation BMW enjoys is due to expectations one gets from seeing something so overpriced.

I'd go for the Acura MDX anyday - its a better vehicle for under 40k....

Not like we had enough Stupid Useless Vehicles then BMW had to join the crowd. Let's just increase our dependence upon foreign oil by buying thousands upon thousands of useless boxes of metal that get 12-15mpg. I'd wager $100 that no more than 0.01% of these BMWs ever get more offroad than a soccer field. Toss in all of the Ford Exhibitions and all of the other marques and one might actually get to a whole 1%.

lighten up.

I thought this was an off-topic section and I didn't see anything in the thread name that said no comments, please.

If you want to go off on a rant discussing the USELESSNESS of SUV's, start your own thread. There is no place for it here. If you don't like SUVs why even post?

Sales numbers aren't everything, of course, but I bet BMW is very happy to be ahead of MB.

I'm glad too. BMW's have always been more sporting/faster than Mercs anyway. MB is all about automatic transmissions and superchargers. BMW is all about manual transmissions, sport suspensions, and naturally aspirated engine wizardry ;) M-Power!!! :D

I'm sorry, but the brush bar is a bit much ;)

And the Xterra is far from beautiful, it's a butch Sandra Bearnhardt compared to an X5's Meg Ryan-ish appearance :D

I agree. MB wants a piece of that sportier market, though... many of their cars can be had with sport packages these days, and of course they have their AMG sub-brand.

Their new C-Class hatchback is an obvious attempt to lure younger people that would normally lean towards BMW, too. Unfortunately, it's downright fugly!

She looks the same either way to me. Have you seen the previews for her latest movie with Hugh Jackman?? She's 40-ish and she's STILL got it. UMPF!!!!!!!!!! :D

Well, first off, the Xseries are NOT SUV's! They are SAV's! You can't compare them to anything but the Mercedes, Lexus, and now Porsche equivilants. So, my opinion still stands, the XTerra is the best SUV. Best looking and one of the best performing. The X5 is the best SAV. There is a difference folks!
