What you are looking for is indications the D base is at least at motivated and pissed off as they were in 2017/2018. Over performing in special elections is one significant signpost along the way.

The D coalition is kinda primed to do better in these than the Rs now. However the margins were much smaller in the run up to the Presidential in 24. If they are clearing R+20 or +30 districts that is a pretty vivdid warning about what might await next year for Republicans.

Doesn't really matter though because even if Dems win back control Reps just block any meaningful change and then the public elects Republicans again because Dems aren't fixing anything.
