Dem Leader Harry Reid Under Fire

Seems Harry Reid is sinking in the ethics ship in Washington as well. Imagine that, a Democrat!

I say put 'em in the ship with DeLay and anyone else if it is proven.

Doesn't seem comparable since nothing in the article indicates Reid knew anything about the Pastor's intent to steal money from the grant:

The money that led to the indictment this week of two Las Vegas pastors and the wife of one of them came from federal grants arranged by Sen. Harry Reid in September 2001, a Reid spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Moving to distance Reid from a possible scandal, aide Tessa Hafen said the senator sought the money on behalf of a nonprofit social services agency and not for the churches or persons who have been accused of mishandling the money.

"The money was administered by the Department of Justice, and it went to the agency in Nevada (Alliance Collegiums Association of Nevada)," Hafen said.

The Rev. Willie Davis, the longtime pastor of Second Baptist Church, and his wife, Emma, were indicted Tuesday on fraud charges with an associate minister, the Rev. McTheron Jones.

They are accused of spending $330,000 from federal grants on themselves although the money was intended for halfway houses for prison inmates in Southern Nevada.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that any (or every) Democrat in congress has done shady campaign-finance deals like DeLay, or taken lobbyist-funded junkets, or taken other bribes.

This particular case just seems like typical pork, along the lines of Don Young's $741 million of waste for Alaska in the transportation bill.

If anything, this just shows that large grants to any organization, including "faith-based" ones, needs strong oversight.

Reid's crooked too. But that's nothing compared to his four sons working for a lobby firm which lobby Reid and congress members directly for clients back home for serious cash money contracts/land deals for pennies on the dollar/drilling and mining rights. As always follow the money/where there's smoke there's fire. etc etc.

The whole US government today reminds me of those old crime movies and novels where the criminal is confronting justice and he faces off with his former colleague in crime, snarling, ?If I go down, you?re going down with me.? Simply too much dirty business in politics to pursue any of them seriously (themselves investigating of course).

The article reeks of innuendo, not surprising, and shows just what kind of a stretch is necessary to hit Reid with the old tar brush...

As if it's Reid's fault that somebody else misused grant money...

Well, Maluckey, if there were some argument in the first place, then a counter argument would be appropriate. As it is, Pabster's trying to connect bigfoot to the unabomber... because they both lived in Idaho... A charitable church contribution of $250 from 8 years ago isn't exactly a money trail...

I hope the partisan politics of Washington, and the ideological divide between the party, results in a witch hunt of epic proportions...resulting in all the skeletons in the closet being exposed...all of the scandals revealed...all of the corruption readily obvious to the American people...followed by a purge of these crooks, of both parties, that call themselves our elected leaders.

This shouldnt surprise people. Politicians make a living off of telling people one thing and doing another while they steal your wallet.

We saw a drop in interest from the democrats once their initiatives to smear people like Delay and Frist got serious. Because they know all too well once one goes down they are next on the list to be looked at.

Sheesh. Both sides need to clean up the act. It's always been there, just nobody cared as long as the status quo of silence wasn't broken. As soon as trust was breeeched it's every crook for themselves.

I have stated before that politics is a den of snakes, and anyone that willingly rises though the ranks is bitten and sullied somewhere along the way.
