I have a Delta x12 DVD-ROM in my secondary PC (Andara Barebones Deal from 2001) it has always been generally reliable, however recently is is not detected in Windows (using Win ME - which is troublefree for me).

The drive is detected in the BIOS and afaik it is present during boot up.

What are the normal reasons that drives are not detected in Windows - when they are detected in the BIOS?

This problem only relates to my DVD-ROM - my LiteOn CDRW appears in Windows without any problem - only the DVD is not detected.

TweakUI allows you to hide drives...and make them appear if they suddenly disappear, under Win9x. Check that.

Hi Andy,

Too early to say "Gong Hei Fat Choi!" I guess :)

I'll check that out later tonight when I get back from the office ;)

Update!

Well I have been doing a lot of fiddling and have discovered something :)

When I boot the PC up and go into the BIOS and re-detect the DVD-ROM drive it seems (so far) to play a DVD when it is put in the drive without any trouble.
However, when I have not done this "re-detection" on boot up - although it is listed in the BIOS and in windows it will not play DVD's - it will however load regular CD's etc.

Anybody know why this is happening?
