Delta + mobo header = smoke?

I just put together a Duron 750 system in the cr@ppiest case I have ever seen (obviously for a dweeb down the block). The case has no fans and the vent holes are almost all covered by really "cool" looking plastic covers that don't allow any ventilation. I found a used no name 80mm fan built by Delta in the bottom of a junk box and installed it in the front of the case to suck in (blow in?) This fan sounds like a tornado and blows tons of air, so I am not worried about cooling. What does concern me is that I plugged it into the motherboard header and I am wondering if there is a danger of blowing the header or frying the mobo with this fan. It has a two wire connector clipped to fit the three pin header.

Whaddaya think? I want to deliver this and get my money so I can buy more parts for my new rig, but I don't want any comebacks.

Then I'd either have to splice the wires or go out and buy an adapter. Like I said, I'd like to get this box out the door the way it is if there isn't any danger of smoking the header. I figured someone here would know, perhaps from past experience hehehe!

I'm trying to remember my electronics/circuits, but this is what I'm assuming. If the voltage/current spec of the fan is lower than that of the header, then the only risk is of the fan frying. And if the fan has a higher rated spec, then it'll only run at the power supplied by the header. But then again I'm pondering if the fan might try to draw more power, thus possibly damaging the header. Then obviously if the specs match, then you should be tight. Not sure on this, but just my two cents.

The Delta 80mm fan is rated at 6.96 watts. This is more than an Asus board can even handle. You're going to have to get a four pin adapter, because yes, running this fan from a header on the mobo will eventually fry the header and possibly something else.

Yea..don't run case fans off the mobo...just adds to instability.
