Delta CPU Fan oddity

Wondering if anyone else notices then when you click on stuff in windows (such as closing or minimizing windows) that your Delta slows down a little bit. Because my delta puts out a high pitch humm sound when im doing nothing, but then when i click stuff it almost sounds like it slows down a little bit and speeds back up after the "click" has gone through.

Thats weird. I have a a dual fan cpu cooler (not sure what brand since I got it at a local shop) and my fans seem to change speeds sometimes too. Maybe they aren't getting power when we click on stuff.

i have an aplha pep66-t and mine doesnt do it...it laggy sometimees during all nite rc5 sessions but that is about it..

Nate

I have a Delta hooked up to my PEP66 on a 700E @ 933 and it works fine, loud as always, but I never notice because I have dope headphones 😉

Not to sound like a nitpicker, but did you make sure you plugged the fan into the PSU via a 3-4 pin converting wire? The reason for this is the Delta fan draws way too much current for a 3 pin riser on the mobo to support. It could fry either the head, fan, or cause instability in the mobo itself.

I haven't noticed this problem, but it might be drawing more than the header gives, and the KT-7 headers put out more power than most. (6W)

so I should connect my fop 38 to the hdd style power supply instead of the mb? Then i would lose the snazzy tachometer feature in Asus Probe!

Gary, I most certainly would put it on a 4-pin adapter ASAP 🙂 If your motherboard is working fine with it that is a sign of its quality - but I'd throw it on a 4-pin connector before you burn out the motherboard header. There is a change you might not, but I would play it safe.

Just what you need.

😉

Gary, you don't have to lose the fan RPM monitor. The yellow (center) wire if I recall can be removed from the connector and connect it to the mobo.

I have the one that came with it, I'll install it tonight. Thanks for the advice. The P/S is the 300w one that came with the case I bought. It's the no name brand.
