Delta CD-Roms anygood?

I have a 52x Delta. Its LOUD(If you don't have a 7200rpm Delta 😉) when its at full speed but playing games its very quiet. Have had no problems with it at all. It also rips cd's fast and can read cdr-w very well.

Well, I would post my opinion, but it may well get me banned.

Good thing their cheap, at least you ain't out much when you replace 2 months later.....

thats what I been hearing about them(that they burn out fast)

I want something that will last a while. Where can I get a killer deal on a decent brand?

I've owned it for about 2 months and it is used all the time. As I stated I've had no problems out of it.

Don't buy one, they are crap.

I've got one, and where I work thats all we have, they are constiently braking.

Deltas, USAs, BTCs are (like some have said) loud and sometimes unreliable. I've had a run-in with a Delta B4. Didn't read some VCDs and a couple of Software CDs. BTCs were just loud on access and access times were abysmal and the CD access light being on when a CD was inside the drive annoyed me.

Cheap, gets the job done, but don't expect performance like say a Toshiba, a Sony, a Pioneer, a Teac, et al drive (no particular order 😛).

Aopen, I've heard, are lower-end Pioneers but that's what I've heard somewhere. **Don't know the validity of that.**

I have picked up about 10 of these from Staples (with rebate & coupon code naturally) for systems I have built. I have only had to return one (the disk rubbed the tray when spinning). I have had other problems with them. They are not the quietest (but quieter than my memorex 48x). For $15 after rebate, they are a good buy. They will not read sub tracks for Clone CD. For a basic CD-ROM, they are a decent pickup if you get them on sale/rebate.

Acers are better drives IMO. The one I had in one of my systems is quiet and reads everything. Afreeys are also good, cheap drives thats reasonably quiet and reliable.

Acer was good, but their quality in the 50x went downhill if you ask me, the older 48x is a much better drive than the 50x Acer.
I have both and prefer the 48x, but now I'm using a Majicspin 56x which is very good on mine but they changed manufacturers and now they sound like a jet engine, so stay away from them also.

I would recommend you check out the Hitachi 8X DVD-ROM at MWave. It is as cheap as most CD-ROMs and it is an excellent drive. I put one in my Uncle's system and it works great. It is also the QUIETIST high speed drive I have ever heard (or not heard 😉 ).
