Gull wings, Michael J Fox, and £84m of British taxpayers' money. Twenty years on, the ill-fated DeLorean sports car remains a legend among failed automobiles.

I saw one on the road the other day. They look kinda funny without the Doc Brown modifications of the Back to the Future DeLorean we're all used to seeing.

I got to race one in Buffalo last summer, which was weird because there are hardly any cool looking cars in this city. I was disappointed it didn't have an "OUTTATIME" license plate.

The UK Government pursued its lost millions through the courts by suing accounting firm Arthur Andersen - now embroiled in the Enron scandal - accusing it of botching the audit of the DeLorean books.

hum...... anyone else find that weird

They're slow as in 140HP/ 3000+ lbs slow... it's up on Supercars somwhere.

EDIT - I just looked the weight up, it's a little under 2900lbs - still slow as ass for that kind of car

<<anyone know the performace/engine specs?>>

I'm not sure about numbers, but it was a V6 and for some reason 134 HP sticks in my head. I know that there were plans for a turbo V6 DMC at a later date. It's too bad about the car failing though. John Z. was a great guy, fathered the Pontiac GTO and worked with Arkus-Duntov on the Corvette way back when. John did win in court (something about entrapment) but by the time he was proven innocent the damage was done. Very much like Preston Tucker many years before him.

Off topic, but the 1948 Tucker Torpedo was a friggin' amazing car.

How did Doc Brown ever get it to 88 MPH in a parking lot?

I thought the Libyan Uranium (or was it Iran?) only powered the time travel?

Ever since I saw Back to the Future I wanted one. Today I am 26 and I think I will purchase one by the end of the year. Hopefully I can do some work and get the interior leather re-done....but it won't be my everyday car.

God I love that car. I realize that it's performance is terrible but I don't give a damn. I just know that I want one. One day, one day. Then once I install the flux capacitor, I'll never have to worry about being late for anything ever again!

Someone has 1 in my town. I think someone else has one in the surrounding area too, because I've seen 2 different ones around here. (diff license plates)

the tucker was that one car that went up against the big 3 in cars right? it had a bunch of features back then that were laughed at or whatever but are standard now like seatbelts and all that junk? and then the big 3 took him to court and like at the end he goes on a 100+mph car chase and then everyone was like 'yowza'? but then he still couldnt keep production for some reason that i forgot?

what was the name of htat movie and am i even thinking of the right one? :)

a specialty dealership in town was selling one for $2500 bucks last year. The body was in great shape, the inside needed to be redone, and I don't know anything about the engine. I REALLY wanted to buy it and make it my project car, but then I realized:

1. I don't have room for it
2. I don't have the car knowledge to fix it up

They are generally very cheap, esp considering the rarity. Most of them have great body condition too since they are stainless. There's one at a car show every weekend during the summer near my house.
