Dell's xp upgrade pricing policy

In the tuesday issue of the WSJ I saw a dell ad for a desktop and a notebook both came with XP Home Edition and could be upgraded to XP Professional. What struck me as odd is that the upgrade was $60 on the desktop and $79 on the notebook. WTF it's the same upgrade why would the cost be different depending on the hardware.
 
You never know how much of that crap is handed down by some stupid political license agreement with M$, rather than Dell's own policies.

Sometimes companies switch out hardware on their machines when you switch OS's. Maybe swapping Home for Pro on the laptops changes something that the desktop doesn't.

Just shooting in the dark here.
 
I see your point, but both seem like a good deal to me. The retail price difference is about $100.

 
People that buy laptops have more disposable income than those that do not?

Or, maybe it's more of a hassle to reimage the Laptop than the Desktop machines (Assuming they reimage and not just 'image to order' or pull from inventory.)

I guess it's just insane though.

Well the add just says upgrade to XP Professional for x dollars, no mention of any different hardware. Okay here you can see what I'm talking about.


Notebook XP upgrade $79
Desktop XP upgrade $60
