Thanks for the head's-up, I was thinking of getting a Dell instead of building it myself this time, and was pondering the 9800 non-pro. Boo indeed.

Running it at 425 / 340, 5605 3dmark with a p4 2.4. Stock bios.

If this is "slow memory" I'm ok with it so far. :)

I've got a 9800 non-pro from a dell, but I don't know how to find out what the clocks are... what app are you guys using?

I'm using "eyes 1.0"

Look at the chips, they have numbers on them. If they end in GC33 it's the 300mhz part.

Doh, I must be lucky to grab one early. Just bought one in the fs/t forum here. Came with the 2.86ns Samsun chip and kicked it to Pro speed with no problem (yet).

Slower memory does not mean worse performance, if you look at my current clock it's way above pro speeds, and I have yet to mod the bios for memory voltage..

I just checked powerstrip and i have 325/290... I really would overclock it... but it gives me more than enough performace as it is...

I'm just as concerned as everyone else that we got watered down, watered down 9800's... In clock speeds, my 9800 non-pro has the same core speed as a 97 and even slower memory. Just because I'm concerned about it doesn?t guarantee that I'm willing to overclock to rectify it. Overclocking accelerates solid state decay, and I refuse to do it on a regular basis.... Sorry if I took more air in this thread than you would have liked... I had no idea what you were talking about at first with that serial number- It took some digestion time.

I mean come on... I did spend a few minutes looking for "Eyes 1.0" on google... call me retarded... go ahead.

I thought they'd fixed that when they changed from the "9800TX" to just the "9800" and even the "9800 Pro".

Guess not. :|

Ok, you're retarded. :beer::)

Seriously, though- this card has the same physical build as the pro card, it's simply the bios and software choosing to run it at a specific speed. It's not really overclocking, imho. Running it at 425 / 340, though, is clearly overclocking.

I now feel obligated to push this thing even further. :)

WHen you say Dell is shipping slower 9800NP. Do you mean they changed the clock speeds or same clock speeds as before but just memory without much overhead?

Clock speeds are the same, the memory is physically slower. No difference to you unless you're overclocking.

Samsung memory, for reference:

K4D26323RA-GC2A 350MHz 700Mbps/pin SSTL_2 (VDD/VDDQ=2.8V) 144-Ball FBGA
K4D26323RA-GC33 300MHz 600Mbps/pin SSTL_2 (VDD/VDDQ=2.8V) 144-Ball FBGA
K4D26323RA-GC36 275MHz 550Mbps/pin SSTL_2 (VDD/VDDQ=2.8V) 144-Ball FBGA

Samsung memory designations (Check the last digits on the memory)

20 2.0 ns (500MHz)
22 2.2 ns (450MHz)
25 2.5 ns (400MHz)
2C 2.67 ns (375MHz)

Remember, it also depends on the quality of the memory chips. If you take a batch 5 different memory chips with the same nanosecond rating, test them all for highest overclocking point, you'll see they overclock very differently.

I got 3.0NS RAM on my 9800 Non Pro but I don't OC at all, I run stock, so no OC results from me...

I just recieved a dimension 4600 with the Radeon 9800 card.

This is a non pro version with the 350MHz samsung memory.
The GPU/VPU are running at 325 MHz and the memory at 290/580.

My mom wanted an LCD monitor, and I talked her into buing the dimension 4600 that were on sale here in norway with a 17" LCD.

The rest of the system:
P4 2,66 GHz
256 MB ram
865PE chipset
Seagate 7200.7 80GB
Samsung combo drive

The whole system went for around the double of just the 17" LCD monitor (around $500 in US)

I also tried 3dmark2k1 and 2k3 to see the results. It's a shame that my mom got a computer with a radeon 9800, when I only got a radeon 8500/9100 with 64MB ram :(

The results I got was almost exactly 5000 points in 3dmark 2k3, and 15200 in 3dmark 2k1.
