Damn, Dell keeps making new screens for their laptops - what the hell is Ultrasharp? And is it worth the extra money? I thought enhanced UXGA just came out. Now I see an option for UltraSharp that costs $100 bucks more than the enhanced UXGA. And also how is the new Sony laptops 16 inch monitors compared to these?

<<Dell keeps making new screens for their laptops >>

Dell does not "make" laptops, at most they tell the ODM to put cute palm rests on it

ultrasharp is really bright and has a much wider viewing angle than the previous displays. not sure if it eats batteries or not.

I may be able to add some insight....

When they just sold the UXGA screens, some people were getting IBM and some were getting Sharp. The sharp screens apparently had more color depth and contrast. Maybe this is what they mean?

I just went there, and I don't see the SharpUXGA or whatever after clicking customize and getting to the main (show all options) screen. They only list the E UXGA now. I would guess that maybe when you saw them they were working on changing the name of the screen? I don't know.. the best thing to do is call. Their monitor information page is here.

no mention of the SharpUXGA.... but the Enhanced UXGA is what I would buy if I was ordering now.. I love my UXGA.. anything better would be incredible. In my opinion.. getting a good screen is worth the additional price...
