Dell's customer service

I think these days, more companies are moving their tech/sale team back to North America.

I find Dell's customer service to be one of the worst.

I called them to buy a monitor and they wouldn't sell it to me unless I'd fax them my drivers licence, passport, utility bill statement and social insurance number. That's way too much hassle. The only time I gave this much info is when I was getting my passport. And that wasn't by phone,to a guy somewhere in India!!

A few orders of my buddies got screwed up.
Too many complain about 10 day shipping to become 3 weeks.
Refurbished products sent instead of new.

Dell Customer Service is retarded, I don't care if it's in India or US.

years ago my brother in law wanted to add a 2nd HD to his Dell, being a strictly by the book guy, he went to Dell's web site and did the upgrade advisor thing. It told him what to order, so he did. He wanted to install it himself (he's hands on) I offered to help, but he wanted to call Dell first to see what they recommended he do.

He calls, they say "we don't support adding a 2nd HD to your pc"
"but the web site said this is what I should order"
"yes sir, but we don't support it once it's installed"
"why did the web site tell me to order it then?"

it was crazy to hear the CSR basically say "we sold you the drive, but won't help you install it, and if you do your warentee is void"

I ended up helping him install it. After that day I never wanted to have to deal with Dell CS again

Dell support is horrible. I hope I never have to deal with them again.

Their Premium/Gold support is pretty good but their standard support sucks

its not all THAT bad. they have their good points when the confusion is over.

and they finally understand what i am talking about.
but dell is like a tubelight, just takes a little time to light up.

Always ALWAYS buy the gold support option especially for business. With this I've always managed to get a solid tech rep on the phone within a very short time and have the part replaced by a tech within hours.

Horrible, I ordered a laptop with a 40% off coupon. I wanted to change once thing with the order and and person said sorry the 40% no longer applies to any of it! I had to call back 3 times before someone would fix it.

As it's been stated above, if you buy DELL you ALWAYS buy the gold support

Advice from people who have used both and are trying to save you the hassle
