Just got off the phone with someone from Dell. They wanted me to buy the extended warrenty which would last until 2010. I'm listening to her sales pitch (strange accent, who knows where she was from). I keep saying yeah, ok, etc. Then she gets to the price. $70 for the extra warrenty, with in home service. So I ask her if she has the specs of the computer in question. Why yes she does. Ask her does it show how much I paid for it. Yes, right here it shows 200 (or whatever it was). I say, ok, well, if I paid 200 for it, why would I buy the extra warrenty for nearly half the cost of the whole computer? <silence> She then says thanks for choosing Dell. End.

I *almost* feel sorry for her. You could here her think to herself, I wouldn't buy it either. Why don't they have some sort of lower price cap for these calls? Oh well, sucks to be a telemarketer.

Must be a tough job.

How to keep a happy voice and stay positive when the next call will probably end the same as the last.

Is it best to say no right away or politely listen even if you know you will say no?

It depends. If you are considerate, and they are pleasant, say you aren't interested quickly, so they can get on to the next call. If they are jerks, keep them on the line as long as possible. Ask lots of questions, chew up their time, then say no.

Although I've been cussed at for trying to end the call quickly and not letting them do their speil. Just depends.

I enjoyed asking them to 'hang on for a second'...

then I'd put the phone down and we placed our bets on how long it would be until they hung up.

:D

(the "no-call list" ended our game..... they can't call me. But it was FUN!)

Sorry.. "Becker" is a TV Show starring Ted Danson(Sam Malone from "Cheers") and Terry Farrell(Dax from "Deep Space Nine"). Danson plays a doctor with a private practice/clinic in New York - he's VERY cynical and generally negative about people in general, but he's also a committed doctor and does care the welfare of his patients.

The show is a comedy(hilarious in my opinion). In one episode he's having to deal with telemarketers constantly calling and he comes up with an airhorn as his solution. :D

Dude,

I hate to say it, but does any computer Dell sell for cost $200.00?

By the things you said, accent, her calling you for a extended warranty (BTW Most are maxed at 5 years so add the year you bought your computer plus 5 does that make it to 2010?), and a warranty for $70.00? (Most I've seen, and I've done about 5 of them in the last two months) run at least $129 to $159.00) She ask you for a system serial number or did you give it to her? Lets even take a step further back.. just to clarify.. WHO CALLED WHO? She call you first??

Thats three things, that in my industry, it says to me, you were a possible target of a phone scam. They're not calling you to get you to buy a warranty; they want your information. "How would you like to pay for this?" Don't be surprised you log in with your system serial number and find out your warranty was never extended.

Let me know.... this just doesn't sound good and I deal with Dell damn near on a daily basis.

The PC in question came from the outlet, so $200 is about right. I received a warranty extension in the mail, but haven't had a phone call yet... don't know what phone number I gave them... might have been my old work! lol...

It was from the outlet. Scratch & dent. Small dent on the bottom. Only time you will see it when its on its side or upside down.

Any she didn't ask for any specific info, she never got that far. She called me. Also got some info in the mail from dell about a week earlier for the same thing. To the trash it went.

Anyway as one of my rules of life, I never ever give out any info to anyone over the phone unless I make the call. Thats up there with don't piss off the federalies & don't eat yellow snow. :D
