Dell Zino failure: motherboard or PS?

Hi all.

...love anandtech--longtime lurker here.

Our little Dell Zino (form factor: Mac Mini on steroids) is sick.

HDMI out is broken and both eSATA ports are broken (the Zino was marketed as an HTPC device).

Standard analog video out works fine; all five USB ports work fine...start-up does seem a tad slow...

What could be wrong?

I'm thinking (a) motherboard; or (b) (external) power supply.

New (not from pulls) motherboards are cheap (forty bucks) and used power bricks are ten bucks.

The little thing would make a great dorm desktop size-wise...would like to try and get it fully functional.

Any and all ideas are welcome in our effort to bring the three-year-old Zino back to life...

Thanks.

i dont know what model you have but ebay has a new zino 300 for 55 bucks buy it now, not included is memory , hd , optical ac. You can probably transplant your broken ones into the new one

I don't see how broken ports are related to malfunctioning PSU. Do a motherboard replacement first, and if necessary, power brick replacement.

...I think I'll try the motherboard first.

Our Zino is the 400 with the 4330 graphics chip; there is a base 400 (no 4330) and also a 300 (which, as I recall, lacks the eSATA ports).

Good suggestion, though, about the 300 offered on ebay; I thought about that.

Thanks again.
