I recently bought a used laptop from a friend of mine, And i'm going to post some of the specs here, in the hope someone can enlighten me on some of the upgrade possibilities... because i've been researching myself but all of the intel documents for this chipset name cpus that only existed in 2007 when it was produced so...
Dell XPS Model: M1710
Using Chipset: i945PM
And right now, it's using this cpu:
and it says 996mhz but it's a 2ghz cpu, that's just intel speedstep at work. you can see further up the max speed in the pic.
Anyway, my question is mainly this:
Will any "Socket P" i see on newegg, based on the 45nm "Penryn" core based processor work in this laptop? Has anyone out there used this exact model laptop and tried any of these newer processors in it?
Also along these lines, if i go down to frys and buy 2 * 4gb ddr2-800 from kingston (it has kingston in it now) can anyone comment if it should work?
I'm hoping maybe someone has tried similar ram in this model?
Any comments are appericated.
