I'm very disapointed in the price.

I was looking forward to a portable gaming system that needed to be plugged in to run. All-in-one like a laptop, without some of the performance limitations imposeed by power requirments (and a better cooling system).

Looks like I'll just keep building SFF systems.
 
i'm kind of curious if anyone actually uses this. i have a laptop (and i use my laptop on my lap almost all the time ... i have my knees propped up on my couch and type from there; i personally find it comfortable) and would upgrade, but am i nuts to upgrade to this kind of thing? a laptop with 240GB of space is nice though... but i wonder if i'd look ridiculous buying this and not even being comfortable when i sit or use it simply by being propped up on my couch with the laptop on my lap.

that said, i wouldn't intend to lug it anywhere; i don't really take my laptops anywhere except on my lap. 🙂

It's not ment to be used on a lap, it needs to be on a desk. It also needs to be plugged in to a power source; there is no battery.

It's not ment to be used on a lap, it needs to be on a desk. It also needs to be plugged in to a power source; there is no battery.

is this correct? i've seen reviews that said it comes with a 6-cell battery which lasts for 3 hours

6 cell powering a 20" lcd w/ an X1800 GPU? I wish! a 6 cell would be lucky enough to last an hour and a half with that configuration.
 
Holy chit, nearly $7,500 with the 2.16Ghz Core Duo, 4GB of RAM, 240GB raid0, and 3 year warranty w/ complete care!
 
I have to give them credit for coming up with a unique design, the first time ever. But the pricing is outrageous and in fact, insulting to existing customers.

Actually I talked to Alienware about the battery life of the Aurora, cause I didn't see it listed on the site. They said 30 minutes to 2 hours. Not even enough to get through 1 movie. Kind of silly. You'd have to pack a suitcase full of batteries to use it on a trip. So it's really just for desk use, but then why not just get an actual computer, even a small form factor one could be made to outperform it.

My idea is just to build a thin tower and glue a 19" LCD onto it =) You could put a big battery and an inverter inside the tower, and there you go!
 
I'd rather build a Shuttle SFF PC and a nice LCD with built in speakers. That would make it an ideal home PC and not to bad for lan parties. As much as I like Dell's attempt to make something original, this is just an ugly design.
 
I keep flip flopping between SFF and laptop. I travel for work to demo our system so we got a laptop, then the laptop is old so I figured I'll replace it with a SFF. Then when I get to the airport the secirity people want me to power up the computer (no way in hell I am checking the purpose of the trip in the luggage compartment) so I pulled out the 15inch lcd (the samsung one with the base that folds nicely), keyboard, mouse, power bar, SFF, and hook it up , turn it on, they see it works, shut it down, pack it all up again.

Needless to say, I'll be replacing it with a laptop, I don't really care about battery life since for this purpose, it doesn't need to have a lot. But I do need beefy machine since I have to run Oracle and ArcIMS.
