Dell XPS M1530 Battery not Charging

Hi,

I have a Dell XPS M1530 running Vista (x86). The battery has stopped charging - if i hover the mouse over the icon it indicates that it's on AC power and the battery still has a 28% charge, but is not actively charging.

Any ideas on how to fix this? The battery itself seems to still be working, if i unplug the adapter it's running on the remaining battery power. I'm thinking it's either internal hardware or an OS or BIOS issue.

Thanks

It's almost 2 years old. The capacity isn't what it once was, but I didn't think a battery would just stop accepting a charge at all. This behavior is more like when the battery hits 100% and the system stops charging.

Anytime after 2 years, a laptop battery can simply not take a charge beyond some point similar to what you have stated. I would replace the battery.

try plugging in a different charger that you know works with your model(eg barrow from a friend). It might be your charger as the capacitor in the dell chargers have a tendency to die out.

By the same token, try charging a different battery. It is always a good thing to have a spare in any case. If the same problem persists on the new battery, then you know it is the charger circuit on the Dell mobo, and that is not easy to fix.

Most likely its your battery but I suggest doing what Corky said and find a battery of the same class from a friend or colleague and see if it works. If it works then you know its time for a new battery. Hopefully its not charger circuit because that wouldn't be cheap to fix as opposed to a new battery or battery charger.

It's hard to track one subject in this long thread. Could you tell me how you did it and what you used?

I have a dell inspiron 6400 too, and like to get the bios modded.

Thanks.
