Dell XPS M140 - STOP: c000021a - help please...

I have a Dell XPS M140 (laptop) with winxp media center. I was getting the <Windows Root>\System32\Ntoskrnl.exe missing file and couldn't load windows. I booted to the winxp cd and copied ntoskrnl.exe to the proper location on the C drive. Now, after restarting, I get STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}. I can't login to safe made either (it loads but goes to the same stop error). Any ideas? Is there an alternative way to recover the files?

Thanks in advanced.

You can try installing the OS in a separate folder on your C drive. You would have to reinstall the program software that created them but, the files would still be intact.

However, I would be concerned with how the problem came up in the first place. A stop error in my experience generally points at a hardware problem. However, MS has these tips about troubleshooting the error.

You might try the "ultimate boot cd" and use one of the utilities.

from the ubcdwin do chkdsk /r ..that might be of assistance ..this past weekend made a ubcdwin cd from my hp zv6000 xppro and was able to use it to fix a winmce dell 1501 which had acquired "unmountable boot volume" bsod .. ymmv and gl

I used Acronis to make a copy, but when I locate the folder (where I once had files) nothing is there. Is there something I can do to recover these files?
