Dell XPS laptops .. gaming?

My previous 2 laptops have been from dell (8200 and 8600) and I've been quite happy with both. I'm giving my 8600 to my parents and getting a new gaming laptop for myself. I was wondering what your thoughts are on the XPS systems. I'm looking to spend around $2000, pre-tax/shipping. How is their performance compared to other brands? Are there other gaming laptop brands besides alienware?
 
There's sager and voodoo but they are expensive.

There's a brand new XPS with 7800GTX and 2GB sitting on a table still in the box with a sticky that reads hands off. Sooo tempting I tell you. 😉
