Hello everyone,
I'm posting this thread to determine what options I have with my DELL XPS laptop purchased on 2011. The specs are as follows:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz
Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB

Here is a link of its performance rating:

Currently, the system is acting very slow due to mass amount of clutter that has accumulated since the last time I re-installed the system (around 4 years ago). Some of that clutter I can easily remove, but clearing out the other more hidden ones is far too much of a hassle, not to mention all the other unnecessary stuff that Microsoft unloaded on my pc without my consent ( Despite making several attempts at tracking and controlling the automatic-routinely-system-update to approve on basis of my preference, Microsoft still forced its automatic update system to download everything in each subsequent update package).

Hence, a re-installation is required, but I'm really coming out short with up to date knowledge of what options I have and what my system can currently support. I still have the old Windows 7 installation disc with me, but I was hoping that there may be something more better suited for this system available, now that its been so long since Windows 7 came to the Market.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

An i7 computer from 2011 should run Windows 10 just fine. It's still a free upgrade. You can run the upgrade, and after it activates you can do a fresh Windows 10 install, or leave as is if you are happy with it.

Here is the site you want to get started, as well as make a flash drive drive Windows 10 installer should you so choose:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Expend the "use this tool to upgrade...." section to see what you need to do.

Thanks for the response Ketchup. I have followed the instructions and by tomorrow I will have everything backed up before I uninstall the current OS, and reinstall Windows 10.
