My grandfather's XPS PII-233 (CF444) came with 32mb of SDRAM, and we're trying to add a 128mb module. This thing will not recognize the extra RAM in the POST tests, DOS reports 64mb of RAM (wtf?), and Windows95 will not startup correctly with the extra RAM present. What's up here? Need help... fast!
[edit] The RAM is not bad, it has passed many tests. The Dell acts the same way with other modules. It will not POST unless the original 32mb is there.
[update] A BIOS update has solved the RAM compatability problem, but I still need to get the machine to recognize BOTH modules together. The 128mb is running fine.
[update] BIOS update and moving DIMMs to different slots has resolved all problems. Running 160mb now.
