Hi,

I have a dell XPS 420. All has been working good, last tuesday I was updating Vista Ult. then my NIS 2010 all went fine, I rebooted then used System Mechanic to clean all as SM was cleaning I went out for a smoke, as I returned a few hrs later my monitor was in standby(black screen) and my system fan was in high speed mode. I could not access/start anything so I used the power button to S/D then restarted for a split second it seems to start but then the sys. fan goes to hi speed and thats as far as it goes, no monitor and or accessing of anything else. The power button light remains blue in color, the mini screen remains black with lights on 1,3 and 4. I tried to use a my boot disk(Arcornis)<sp> and also my windows vista ult. disk with no change in the problem and no access to bios/safe mode. The system will stay in this fan hi speed mode untill I shut it down.
I had the power supply checked and it was good. I have two HDDs, one being the Arcornis<sp> backup, I tried switching to it with no change in my problem.
Is it my motherboard/graphics card(GT8800)? Any simple way to check?

Thanks for any replies/help
