I have almost no experience with laptops. Is the dell xps line pretty good? Any known issues with them as far as them running hot or anything? Do those specs look good for the price. I might choose 540 vid card and the 8 gig of ram option too or maybe choose a better cpu. I'm open for all suggestions. My laptop budget was $1200 or less. P.S yes this is for gaming(ffxiv shitty game but i like it).

that's an amazing deal for $980. quad core Sandy Bridge. tempting tempting.
 
If one were to upgrade the hard drive to an SSD, would a 9mm fit? Can't seem to find the info anywhere.
 
How is the fan speed/volume for those of you that have the new Sandy Bridge revision of the XPS15?

louder than any previous laptop I've had when fully powered (SC2, video encoding). heat comes out of left side.

also most powerful laptop I've had so take that for what it's worth.

Do you think it would be too loud for use in a quiet library/study setting? Thinking about getting this as a desktop replacement type thing but also using it every day in law school starting this fall...

it's not loud unless you flex it's muscles. So don't encode video in the library or play sc2?
