Dell XPi Laptop Hard drive installation

I'm stuck! I thought it would be simple (it probably is) to install a hard drive into my new (to me) laptop. I have a Dell XPi that has what I assume is a HD caddy installed on the left side towards the front. It has a small slider that when moved allows the caddy to come about a inch out. I am unable to figure out how to gt it to move any further!! (insert laughter).
Does anyone have one and not mind explaining this simple puzzle to a simpleton? I was so desperate I almost asked my wife to look at it!! Help me AnandTech experts!!!
