I purchased a copy of Windows XP Home from a forum member in the for sale/trade forum. The thing is it came from a Dell PC. He claimed to be installing Windows 2000 and did not need the XP discs so I bought one. He pretty much assured me they would work as he had sold them before.

I did a quick search in this forum and a couple old threads seem to say that I will not be able to use this copy to build a new PC, one reason being a non-Dell bios lock of some sort. I need to know for sure because if this disc is useless to me then I will definietly be asking for a refund.

I installed the copy of windows XP Home that came with my Dell Dimension 8250 on the new machine I built and it worked flawlessly, except for the fact that it comes with Dell Solution Center preinstalled and I couldn't figure out how to remove it completely.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I hate that solution center thing but as long as everything else works I'll be happy.
